The Best Diet Ever - simple and really works

I have a cool tip how to loose weight and improve metabolism: 5 days diet = min. 3 kg off – 1 day only milk 1 liter, 2 day 1 kg of fruits, 3 day 1 kg of chicken or fish, 3 day 1 kg vegetables, 5 day – only 5 hard boiled eggs – 6-7 eat all you like, next week start again.

Battle Of My Bulge: How I Lost Weight

I did it and I’m sure you can do it too. I cannot ever forget the day when a little girl in the playschool where I was a teacher referred to me as “a fat teacher” while describing her first-day experiences at playschool to her mother. Though I could understand that the remark was made in all innocence, without a hint of malice, it hit me very hard. It hurt my ego, it made me angry (at myself), and most importantly, it made me think and do something about my unhealthy diet and lifestyle.

I got determined to get back in shape, though, honestly speaking, I had not even realized that I had put on so much weight during the last 2 or 3 years to invite humiliating remarks – perhaps due to my still high energy levels and 24×7 busy schedule.

I contacted a nutritionist-cum-dietician who despite a family history of obesity had herself dropped some 23 kg (50 lb) over a period of 2 years. And perhaps I didn’t need to shed more than 10 kg (22 lb). This is what she prescribed, and what I did to lose 10 kg (22 lb) in 18 months:

1. Brisk Walking: I took to brisk-walking to my workplace (35 minutes, slightly uphill) as well as from workplace to back home (30 minutes, slightly downhill). Honestly, I didn’t lose much time compared to driving, considering the time one spends in traffic jams and on finding a suitable parking place.

2. Strength Training: No, I didn’t go to a gym to do that. All I did was to carry my routine shopping bags myself, and took the stairs to go to my fifth floor apartment instead of the lift. Once again, I wouldn’t have spent more than a few minutes extra compared to my earlier ways.

3. General Activity: Instead of ordering my maid servant for the littlest of things (pass me this, pass me that, …), I started walking around the house instead of lying on the couch and channel-surfing the TV in my endless hunt to find something worth watching.

4. Diet: This part was very difficult in the beginning as I had to say goodbye to my favorite potato chips, fried snacks, colas, ice creams, butter cookies, cakes, steaks, cheesy burgers – in one word, all the good food – and learn to “relish” the yucky brown bread, the gooey oats, the insipid curries and boiled vegetables, skimmed-milk yogurt, fruits like papaya, salads without those yummy creamy dressings, etc. My dietitian warned me against crash diets or diet pills saying that they could make me look haggard and weaken my heart muscles too. She said I could eat as much as I want from my new menu – but who would want to binge on boiled vegetables and raw carrots! But I did manage to eat what I was supposed to according to my daily calorie requirement.

5. Drinking Water: This is easier said than done. Imagine having to drink 2 to 3 liters of plain water in a day for a person who’d never had more than may be a glass or two of water the whole day, the other times drinking lemonade, colas or chilled beer.

The diet restrictions were stringent for the first 3 months – the dietician said I could have any of my favorite foods once in 15 days after that. I was desperately waiting for the 3 months to be over so that I can binge on my favorite foods. But that was never to happen as I had honestly lost the taste for unhealthy foods and grown to really relish health foods and the way they made me feel – light yet full of energy.

It’s been a year now since I lost 10 kg (22 lb), and I haven’t put an ounce back. I am proud to have done all this by sheer will and determination. My LDL cholesterol level has come down to normal, my HDL has gone to a healthy 58 mg/dL, my BP is normal at 130/80, and to top it all, I look good and can fit into my favorite clothes. Today I can thank that 4-year-old girl whose comment made me do all this. I have fought the battle of the bulge successfully, and I want you to take inspiration from me and do the same.
